Downtown Fresno

I think it is sad how Fresno's downtown has been forgotten. Fresno's downtown has unique urban qualities that are not found anywhere else in the Central Valley. Sometimes I feel like I am in a completely different city when I am in downtown Fresno because the rest of Fresno is so different. Sometimes I get flashbacks of San Francisco for just a second and see the similarities between the two cities. I then wake up and see one major difference. There are no people. There are no cars in a major traffic jam, there are no people rushing past me, there are no sewage workers in the street, there is no screaming, no yelling, no laughing, nobody. In my opinion, it is going to take a lot of effort to bring this part of the city back to life. I need a reason to travel down there. Give me one good reason to go downtown and I'll do it, but don't give me the "come down here and they will build it" reason. I don't have enough time in my day for that. It is going to take some city leaders, planners and entrepreneurs to put something together. Our downtown needs night life, shops, restaurants and housing. It has to offer something different than what I can already get in my local strip mall. I do believe that downtown Fresno can be revitalized, but I'm not sure if it ever will.
