The recent resurgance of American Instrumental Acoustic Guitar couldn't have happened at a better time...
Peter Walker released a seminal experimental acoustic guitar record,
Rainy Day Raga in 1967 on Vanguard. After one other release in
1969, he sort of disappeared, and contemporaries like John Fahey
and Robbie Basho became more well-known. In that time period,
Walker became engrossed in Flamenco guitar and became a master
Flamenco guitarist. Now, almost 40 years since Raga's release, Peter
Walker is returning to the more experimental style he helped to create
in the 60s, and will be touring for the first time in almost four decades.
A Raga For Peter Walker is also being released via the New York label
Tompkins Square, which features four new recordings from Peter
Walker, and tracks inspired by Mr. Walker from disciples of his work,
including James Blackshaw, Greg Davis, Jack Rose, Thurston Moore
of Sonic Youth, Steffen Basho-Junghans and Shawn David McMillen.

A true decendent of the "American Primitive" guitar movement led by John Fahey in the 1960's, the twenty-something Jack Rose is a self-taught guitar virtuoso. He has toured the world w/ only a guitar and a load of talent. He plays in a rapid fingerstyle fashion; often using dobros and alternate guitar tunings to create his lush instrumental arrangements.
