Clovis says yes to WiFi, Fresno kinda nods

They City of Clovis issued a Request for Proposals to WiFi the entire city. Not just Old Town or Downtown, but all of Clovis. Meanwhile, Fresno makes due with service on the Fulton Mall and two blocks of Kern Street. The Clovis WiFi contract will be awarded in January or February. Fresnans will have to rely on the "kindness" of strangers to get free WiFi outside of Downtown.

Wifi

We (90.7 KFSR) had a story on this topic this weekend on our business roundtable program THE PULSE. http://www.csufresno.edu/kfsr/pulse.html

According to The Business Journal (our partner for the program's newscast), it's not necessarily going to be a FREE wifi network, in fact the RFP doesn't specify anything about revenue models. However, the city says their goals would be best met by a free service.

Also they say the plan is to have Old Town wired wireless by summer 2007, and roll out city-wide service after that.
