DUI sting doesn't go far enough

Oh dear. An off-duty Fresno police officer was apparently killed this morning when he drove his car into a tree. He was driving 50-70 mph in a 40 zone, and had consumed "several" alcoholic beverages before hitting the tree at 2am, Chief Dyer told reporters.

What's the big deal about calling a cab?

Cab Companies

I did a little research on cab companies for an Entrepreneurship course and I've got MORE bad news for ya, EdLuv.

A LARGE PERCENTAGE of those phone numbers in the yellow pages ALL DIRECT to the same dispatcher. (which is why they answer the phone "cab company" instead of "_____ cab."

I vote for Azteca too.

Azteca cab

...is located on Divisadero between Van Ness and Fulton. Maybe the would be more responsive to DT pickups, tho I've never used them.

And cabs are cheaper than going to jail. Or killing someone.

cabs cost fucking money. and Im poor. Dewies are all the rage, anyway.

calling a cab

if you're going to call a cab, make sure you have several numbers ready. and, preferably be somewhere "nice" for a pick up.

my experience, and yes, this is only my experience: was @ tokyo garden. was heading to a friend's apartment @ vagabond lofts. he wanted to show it off to our other friend who hadn't seen it yet. we were then headed back to the tower district (home). called the one cab company that i had programmed in my phone, and told them the cross streets @ vagabond. (sure, it's one in the morning, but that's why i'm calling a cab. don't want to drive home, so i got a ride out & planned to cab home.)

operator tells me that "they don't pick up on the west side at night."
i explain, "this is not the west side, this is down town." i also explain again the cross street that i'm at and where i'm going.
operator, sounding annoyed, tells me that it will be 45+ minutes.
i tell them, "nevermind"

fortunately, i had very few drinks that night. my friend loaned us his car, and we drove home.

had i been worse off, i would've needed more numbers to call. and hopefully, one of the other cab companies would have been more willing to visit downtown. because frankly, it seemed like i could've gotten better service if i was needing a pick up somewhere else.

i'm thinking i need to know the # for the cab companies that hang out around the bus station. they're already in the area, so they'd be quick to serve downtown patrons. theoretically.

!

hmmmm

Maybe the PD needs to focus inward in their DUI prevention efforts rather than entraping civilians. Plain clothes officers should follow all off duty police around to ensure that this never happens again.
