Guest interview: The Blue Van

Vernal Falls, the man that brings the music to Visalia, recently interviewed Danish retro-rockers The Blue Van. It didn't make it into his zine, so he was kind enough to let us post the interview here. The Blue Van brings it's 60's style to Howies this Saturday.
I first heard about The Blue Van from a friend. He told me that they'd be opening for Hot Hot Heat on a big tour & that I should try to get them to Howie's before they completely blew up. So, I got on their website and watched their great video "Revelation of Love" from the new record "The Art of Rolling" on TVT Records. Go check it out. It's like seeing/hearing The Who during their better days. After watching the video I read some of their press. Rolling Stone and The New York Times raved about The Blue Van, and Penthouse had this to say: "we bet you'll be groovin' to the light of your lava lamp 'til dawn."
Vernal: What can Visalia expect from a live The Blue Van experience?
Christensen: A good time, a performance that'll stay fresh in your memory for awhile, and good music of course.
V: Tell us about a memorable "on the road" story?
C: We always seem to get into some kind of car crash. On our way to a Boston gig, some idiot banged into us and we went off-roading in a ditch. We were 3 inches from ramming into a huge sign. Then once in Texas a guy drove into us, called the cops, and tried to blame the whole thing on us.
V: Have you seen any bands lately that completely blew you away?
C: The last concert that really did it for all of us, was The Black Keys at Loppen in Copenhagen. They sounded so good live, and Dan(singer/guitar) sings even better live.
V: Sounds from the van?
C: The new Raveonettes album, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and Scott Walker.
V: Do You have a Blue Van (laughter)?
C: NO, WE DO NOT! And if we had a quarter for every time we've heard that question we could afford a private jet.
V: How many changes of clothes do you need for a 2 week tour?
C: A couple of pants, a dozen shirts, a couple of blazers.
V: Is there anything else Sound & Vision Readers should know about The Blue Van?
C: We'll be on tour with Hot Hot Heat the month after Howie's, so stop by!
