There is a free directory that Fresno performing and visual artists can join now - http://www.ERCRegistry.com. Based in Sacramento, we have over 500 artists in the Sacramento area. Fresno visual and performing artists can have a free web page with description, slide show, sound bytes, resume, free streaming video, direct phone contact and "hidden" e-mail access for people who want to hire them. Our mission is to assist local artists find more work - and conversely to help people, businesses and other organizations who want to hire artists and performers be able to FIND the talent they want. We encourage clients to deal directly with the artists - we do not take a commission. Check out www.ERCRegistry.com and build a solid FRESNO base of talent. How fast can you get to 300 artists and performers showing up for the FRESNO region? Tell your talented friends about the ERCRegistry.
FF has had a lot more activity since the adoption of the "recent comments" menu, give me same page access without having to scroll then back page then scroll again.
To the above comment Famous Amos about the bank accounts, ahh, it should include all contributors to FF. Moreover, the source of cash should be the federal mint. Call it an incentive to contribute.
Regarding the pictures rather than text: I can't see what you're talking about...

The first thing I'd like to see is more of you asking for my opinion on how things should be done. This thread is a good start.
Second, I'd like to see a mechanism on FF's homepage that gives me the ability to withdraw cash from other people's bank accounts.
Finally, I'd like a reliable restaurant review, including places to pick up a quick and healthy lunch. Ideally, I would be hired to conduct said reviews.
And last, I think we could all do with less text and more pictures on this site. I don't know many people who like to read, but who doesn't love looking a pictures? Plus, I need to see what you mean, not just read it.

It's easy to keep on top of active forum discussions and what everyone's talking about using the Active forum discussions link. However, after you go to a blog or some other post, you are left hanging and have no way to return to the active forum discussions section. I'd like a link to that on every topic page. As is, you have to go to the forum link at the top of the page, which can be quite a scroll considering the length of some pages. Then after that you have to select again which forum you want to go to. I think the active discussions link is quite versatile and would be quite handy located on every blog/post. You could use a feature of explorer or netscape and go back a page, but then you have to reload the page after that if you want to keep on top of recent posts. Anyhow, just an idea/rant.

I see this as someone who is new to the area anyway,(eighteen months,) and never had nor understood any of the neighborhood prejudices that I see, ('Downtown is cool,' 'Tower is cool,' 'Riverpark is snobbery,' etc. etc.
-I remember when the tag for the site was 'dedicated to making life less boring in Fresno.'
-and I've heard, (if not seen,) of 'proving that there's life below Belmont.'
Things are no doubt, bigger these days.
Showing the town to my mom over the past couple of weeks, and headed out towards Madera,
I was explaining how all the pretty lights that are now NW Fresno were nothing by scrubbrush and coyotes a couple of years ago, (and how, what is now Central Fresno is going to become South Fresno, etc. etc.)
I think there needs to be a bold move, maybe with the site switching over to the Bee,
-to including the different sections,
-and seriously paying attention and promoting what's there for people in those areas.
-For example, we know about what's going on in the Tower
-We know what's going on Downtown,
(this was way cool, dragged mom down to see glass blowing, as well as chicken pie shop,(both as a result of bike-hop events,)
-But what's going on in SunnySide, or Chaplain and Perrin? (etc.)
Seeing here as 'one Big Fresno,' as the city is going to be important, and is shifting radically and quickly to different areas.
-I'd want to know what is going on in those new areas,
-and I think it would help folks who are from those areas to find their 'home turf,' covered and included (such as during ArtHop time,) -etc. ---by including them in zones.
(I remember this starting to happen with the last of the ArtHop maps.)
-I think it will remove some of the barriers and attitudes of some areas being more hip than others.
-And will allow each area to shine for what it is.
(Hence the 'neighborhood presented approach.)
Until these new neighborhoods really solidify and posess strong identities and anchor-shops/galleries, etc.
-The general banner of Fresno will help while things are sort of hazy and vague.
As much as I hate to say it,
there are going to be major changes and the demise of some areas,
-so that other areas will be able to be comprised out of the areas that are changing, (I guess the easiest way to think of this would be the definition of 'Tower District,' -and how that has spread North.
Some areas, such as Downtown, or the oft battled 'Fulton Mall,' may do well to be left alone, and afforded some sort of privacy, and not be as pressured to be what it once was, until it can get through this 'awkward,' phase.
In reality, things cannot be what they were in the past.
Some of the areas, (Tower, Downtown, Fulton Mall, etc,) may stay the same, or they may completely fade out and give way to other things, they may have to, when presented with people voting with their feet and choosing to go to 'RiverPark' or other areas that are springing up out of nothing.)
The worst thing I see happening would be 'forcing,' an area to remain cool, or 'become cool' again, -or even be forced to live up to it's former glory, (ala Fulton Mall.)
-Part of preserving the beauty and identity of something -is also allowing it to transition (or die,) -and then come back as something else.
To someone like me, knowing that such areas (now called 'Riverpark,') used to be called other things is interesting, but I get baffled and a little flustered when folks refuse to acknowledge newer or changed areas for what they are (now,) -and hold prejudices of one area being more cool than another, -or one area having 'more coing on,' than another.
(Last Thursday night, schlepping around with Mom, at a relatively early part of the night in the Tower, -was met with a bunch of 'closed,' signs on the doors. Basically we were just looking for someplace to walk around and look at stuff until it was time to eat... (And yeah, she was interested in buying local stuff and had done so at most stores we hit, just to bring back home...)
-Had we hit the shops up at Riverpark, there would have been more business done, ---because businesses were open.) She still thought the place was nice.
Either way, having a more full coverage of what is going on, and where, (and how to link those events,) TOWNWIDE I think is critical.
Stuff be going on all around Fresno, and I want to know about it.

Mabye a New Fresno Famous Feature could be a linking of all the opinions folks have on what a person new to Fresno should try----I played around with the search function and found the post Jarah did about people asking her should they move to Fresno, and I I remember people posting about favorite restaurants of different types and bars and clubs and such....but maybe a quick *clumping* of such articles is possible?
Dear New-To-Fresno Goldie,
I would say play with the little search box thingy at the top of this site to start with. Lots of people have written about their fave spots. Try Tower District, downtown, arthop---lots of these things are in the 'popular tags' section just to the right and top of this website. Poke around.
Everyone you meet will have an opinion, and what you like will determine...well...the places you like. So keep asking and trying different stuff.----and [uh oh, shameless plug].. satisfy that curiousity you have about Tokyo Gardens
and come out on Sat. Jan.27th to check out some cool music happening there that night.[vernal falls, the trike shop, and abel mouton and the tastemakers who are from, of all places, san francisco]

where are all these cool places we keep hearing about? we just moved here from sf and have yet to discover the cool restaurants, bars, shops...any sugestions? (tokyo gardens has been mentioned a lot, anywhere else?)
well, since I love a hole-in-the-wall-joint I'll consider that a compliment...
Mono and Broadway...my friend...Yoshi NOW!...and since I also adore shameless self-promotion...I'll tell you that those fabulous vintage clothes of which you speak are 50% off untill January 17th...but for you Mr. English, I can do a little better.
How about some in-depth features on places to go downtown. There's so many cool little shops and stuff down here that almost noone knows about...might be fun. Everyone knows where to eat and about all the little art galleries (though the more that know certainly the better). But what about that little hole-in-the-wall joint on I dunno...Mono, that has the best vintage clothing in town.
I dunno that there is such a place, I'm just saying...

Maybe a link the DTA website?
Or even just to the Downtown restauarant guide (found, naturally, at the DTA website - at http://downtownfresno.org/directory/)?
Definitely having bands, restaurants, and music venues at easy reach is a great plus.

Here are two for the list: http://centraltransit.com/ This is a company intent on building a light-rail system in Fresno.
http://cattcc.org/ Center for Air-quality and Transit Technology of Central California
Currently holding meetings for anyone concerned about the future of Fresno in terms of a future.
Adding to the comprehensive database idea I would like to suggest some information on how to get involved in the community. Not just events but clubs and organizations not necessarily volunteer work but group activities.

Well maybe a book review would be nice. I love to read but don't always have the time to surf the web to read books reviews but I am on FresnoFamous daily!
Since, I guess, there will be more people to work on this kind of stuff now…
1) A comprehensive database of things like: Fresno area restaurants, bars, bands and so on. All with options for users to easily rate the bar or bands (some sort of star rating system), or post a review by just clicking a button. Eventually getting to a point where bands and restaurants can be ranked in a — always changing - Fresno Famous Users top ten (like the FF bloggers have now with the "top blogs"). It would really be cool to see what the users rankings are for Fresno bands, Mexican restaurants, or whatever.
2) An expanded FF User personal pages that adapts more of the Myspace bells and whistles, but with a FF flair.
3) A video posting section (life in Fresno style video).
4) Can there be a retro section that highlights some old stories on FF? Really I'd just like to see the old template - I miss it.
