Who'd you miss

As pointed out by AntiMusick dead musicians get you thinking about what you may have missed. Or better yet, what you didn't. I am sad that I didn't see the Ramones when they played the Wilson in...'93, '94. But I'm glad as all get out that I got to see Johnny Cash at the Fox in Handford before he died. What about you? Anyone you wish you would have seen?

thanks bill jr.jr.---if ever this fantasy web-page/coffee table book of FresnoR&RMusic was ever to be, you'd have to be a major contributor-----I'm thinking even it was someone you know: Basketball Woods The Tall that told me about the Stones at Selland---but it woulda had to have been Ratcliff right?
Anyways, I'm jealous that you saw Cream. I'll have to find you some ArtHop eve for you to refresh the details.
My sister said she'd seen them at the LA Forum.
Thanks for the well-wishes and best to you for '07.

cream concert

Hey Thereminman, read my Lost Fresno post on the loco concert scene in the sixties. I was at the Cream show. Blue Cheer opened. it was at Selland. George Hiatt and Baba Love productions brought the show. It was excellent(well not the Blue Cheer part). Also saw them at Winterland--much better show. Baba Love also brought The Mothers with Electric Flag and a month later brought Janis and Big Brother to Selland. Saw them all. Great shows. Good luck with yr. New Year's show.

re: the Cream concert in Fresno

I (almost) put this in the urban legend category--like the story that Led Zeppelin played here on one their first tours, was
under-appreciated and 'swore never to play Fresno again'--eXCEPT
that I have heard people say that they saw this (Cream) concert--but
some say it was at the Fresno Fair grounds.[I'm not pretending that I have any sort of definitive answer---I do remember some folks saying that the mid-60's appearance of the Stones was at Selland----but I think the newspaper said it was Ratcliff...same sort of Foggy Memory Syndrom that we all are prey to at times]
---I still think a History of Fresno Rock would be great fun as a web-site and even a coffee table book.---covering mostly local bands--but rock legends of the area I think would be fair game as well.

Damn, I missed it

Hey, I would've only been 2, but Kiss at Selland on the Dynasty tour in '79. Yeah!

The ones I missed

How about Queen and Mott the Hoople at the Warnor's theatre. I was too young, lived out in the sticks, no drivers liscense yet. Deep Purple at Selland Arena, same thing.
Another one was Neil Young at the Warnor's. That one I didn't even know happened, I was a bit out of touch I guess. Would have been nice to see Cream at Selland Arena too, but I would have been in a stroller then.

Bands I missed....

Oh heck yeah! How could I forget! Although I wasn't living here at the time, I'd have loved to see The Police at Ratcliffe!! Must have been superb....

oh yeah, and the Police show at the Warnors!

Dang, ok, this is the kick-myself-in-the-pants story.
Later, I did see the Police...at Radcliff(sp?) and at the aforementioned US Festival. BUT, the one to have SEEN (and I did NOT) was at the Warnors just after their second album (this was well before they started playing jazz for 18 hours of the day and before they sold to McClatchy [are we at the point where we can joke about this stuff?] but REALLY me droogs, it was near Christmas or some such holiday and relatives were coming, and my sister was in town, and we were all at my parents' and my brother took off for downtown and said "you'll have tickets at the windown" and we just couldn't...we just couldn't get out of the family get together thingy and EVERYONE said it was great and my sister and I could have gone and we had tickets there waiting for us and everything and we didn't. --we probably had some dried-out turkey or something instead.

Ramones vs. the Ramones (to the Chipmunks)

I saw the Ramones twice. Once at the US festival---BIG HUGE outside festival---and it just didn't work. Even though I loved the Ramones and it was the first time I saw 'em and all....but a couple o' years later I saw them in this big concrete bunker of a room in Northridge called Devonshire Downs and it very much rocked--Dickies opened. Very good.
----Who I wished I'd seen? Led Zeppelin was a part of my early childhood development and I still love them. Never saw them, and even missed that groovy Page/Plan tour where they had the full on Indian Orchestra along with. I'd have liked that.
--I'm sorry I missed James Brown (someone mentioned that recent casino show? was it good?)
---I'm sorry I never saw Chet Atkins---another childhood hero.
--and the Chipmunks, never saw them either. And they were from Fresno!!

Wish I could have seen my favorite band of all time! You know it's sad when you don't even get to see you FAVORITE band. Anyhow, it's The Faces. Rod got pissy and they broke up the year I was born.

Too bad...

Wish I would've seen Faith No More too....

Babes in Toyland

I remember thinking I should have skipped Babes in Toyland. This was at the Wilson. I think they opened for Faith No More (who kicked ass).

Korn and Metallica

I wish I hadn't seen Korn and Metallica when they came some years ago, Seland I think it was. The sound SUCKED! The PA was so terrible, I made out a handfull of lyrics through the entire concert. Rageing pissed after that one. Oh, and the last showing Killswitch had here with some other Emo bands, they lost their original guitarist and man o man did they miss him. I went to see them all but really wanted to see Killswitch, and I was so let down. Saw Killswitch with My Ruin at the Gameroom and that sh!t ROCKED!!! They had their guitarist then and man did they put on a show. Dude was licking his guitar during his solos and haveing a crazy good time running around on such a small stage. My Ruin put on a great show and I have to say, their guitarist makes that band.

I've said it once, and I'm sure I'll say it a million more times, SMALL VENUES RULE!

Ramones

I went to those shows (and one at the Tejon in Bakersfield) and let me just say, if you've seen one show you've seen them all.

What about shows you wish you had missed? Megadeath and Soundgarden at the Wilson come to mind.

Only a couple I missed

Wish I would have gotten to see Slip Knot the first time they came to Fresno, before they were huge. The played the Rainbow, I love that venue. Same venue for Pantera when they were still together. Now that will never ever happen since Daryl was killed. Really feel a loss for haveing missed those.
