Oh boy! Nothing like an SAT scandal to make high school soccer even more exciting! Clovis West goalie Alex Lloyd has been accused of taking the SAT twice for the apparently less mentally gifted forward Ben Milam. Milam has lost his soccer scholarship to UC Berkeley because of the scandal. No word on what will happen to Lloyd, or when he will learn not to risk his future for the sake of a poor test taker.
News anchor Liz Harrison must be real pissed her son Ben Milan made the 6 O'Clock news! Anyone guess what his punishment was?
Now look what happened July 2009
He is on the Action News AGAIN !!! Liz must be so PROUD that her son is on the news like mommy.
Hispanic Students
Hispanic students at Roosevelt don't take SAT tests.
I'm not sure what is worse.
I'm not sure what is worse. Your spelling and grammar, or the fact you posted to something that was started months ago.
So what punishment did you get?

People always like to read about other's misfortune. That is not too nice.
Scandals make good gossips
Unfortunately, scandals make good gossips
wset vs east
I heard that there's a kid from NYC at Clovis East that is one of the top basketball players in the nation and he can't play this year because the CUSD is banning him for a made up violation as a punishment for chosing East over West. Has anyone else heard about this? Is the school district that corrupt? Is West that afraid of East?
I Was Surprised Because it Was Clovis West
Frankly, I was surprised it was reported solely because it was Clovis West. Clovis Unified tends to bury some of the less flattering stories that occur at their schools that also happen at any school. Unfortunate episodes such as affairs between students and teachers happen everywhere including in Clovis but they don't usually make the Fresno Bee. The teacher is quietly let go and left to find a job at another school district.
I thought it was appropriate for the Bee to report on the soccer players because they had profiled the goalie a month ago in regards to his stellar academic and soccer accomplishments. It was a natural follow up t that story. I was more stunned by the fact another Clovis West parent hired a private detective to follow the test taker to the SAT test site at McClane High School. It is a sad story for the kids involved and their families.
Probably not the same
Probably not the same coverage, but it should. According to the Great Valley Center, only 26% of Central Valley high schoolers take the SAT, compared with 38% for CA as a whole.
Really?
REALLY GUYS? You think if this was two Hispanic students from Roosevelt High it would be getting the SAME coverage?
whlie I don't agree with her method of saying it...
I agree with FalconChick. It's one hell of a conversation story. I've heard hella people talking about it, before I even read the story that day. Personally, I think stories like that should be on the front page. It's not dire news -- but it's interesting and different.
And I'd say if it happened to anyone -- soccer player or not, any school -- it would be on the front page. And that's exactly why it shouldn't be on the sports page.
Disclosure: I have no input at all at The Bee of where stories go. So this is just my own opinion.
high horses aside . . .
My favorite part of the article is where one of the parents says that to boy wanted to live the ivy league life, but instead will now most likely have to go to UC Santa Barbara.
Tragic. Just tragic.
TCM
Umm..i dont think so
magical-and-oh-so-special Clovis West? u have got to be kidding me. I attend Clovis West, and just because we excel is in certain elements doesnt give u the right to bag on us. I think that if this would have happened at ANY OTHER SCHOOL it would have made the front page as welll. It is a SAT scandal, u dont see many of those in the San Joaquin Valley...so u need to get off ur high horse and shut up!
Clovis WEST? Get an original name ya lazy bastards
I thought it was weird that The Bee put this story on the front page the other morning. Shouldn't have this been a story for the sports section? If they weren't on the soccer team, how would this make the news?
Also, do you think this would have been a story at all if this would have been two dudes from Edison? Is it just the fact that it's two kids from the magical-and-oh-so-special Clovis West?
