Sunnyside High School Performing Arts Department
Presents An Evening of Gary Soto One Acts….

The Wildcat Playhouse at Sunnyside High School will be producing local author and playwright Gary Soto's wonderfully comical one acts, Novio Boy and Nerd Landia, March 28, 29, 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. in the SHS theatre. Gary Soto is an author true to his Hispanic heritage and culture. He was born in Fresno and sets many of his tales here. He is an acclaimed poet, essayist and fiction writer and Sunnyside is honored to present his work to the community.
Novio Boy is the story of Rudy, a 9th grader who has a date with 11th grader Patricia. Now he has to come up with the poise, money and conversation to carry it off. This one act play, by turns heartwarming and heart wrenching, follows Rudy from his desperate search for guidance through the hilarious date itself—all the way to it's happy conclusion.
Nerd Landia follows the story of Martin, a brilliant Chicano nerd who is desperately in love with Ceci, the most beautiful chola on campus. Through the advice and camaraderie of his vato friends, Martin makes a transformation, to become Ceci's ideal vato from the barrio! A fun, delightful story for the whole family!
WHEN: March 28-31st @ 7 p.m.—Special Reception with the playwright, Gary Soto, immediately following the show on 3/29.
