Local Ironworkers Union Strikes over Racist Death Threats

Local rebar manufacturer CMC Rebar has most of its employees out on the picket lines today. Douglas Ballis, general organizer for the Ironworkers International union, said a company supervisor threatened to have one of the Latino workers killed by the Aryan Brotherhood. Angel Gomez, who has worked at CMC for over 10 years, also said that the company is now threatening to fire any of the workers who have gone out on strike.

An hour or two with the striking workers on the picket line can lift spirits quite a bit. And if the strike continues for any length of time, they will need money and food to continue to support their families.

I only regurgitated what I

I only regurgitated what I read on indybay, and there's no call to action there.

If you want to show your support, drive by CMC Rebar and talk to the people striking. Let them know they are in your thoughts.

Contact your Fresno City Councilperson and let them know that businesses who use fear to mitigate workplace issues have no place in Fresno.

Local Ironworkers

Any information you can provide on how we can support the local ironworkers in their efforts would be greatly appreciated. We need to let it be known, that as a community we will not tolerate this sort of treatment towards others. Thanks for posting.
