City finally raises street fees, reluctantly

The City Council finally passed policy on Tuesday to raise street fees for developers. It's the first time in 15 years fees have been increased. Fees will increase by seven to 10 times for residential and commercial development, with lower fees in the older parts of town.

Stakeholders will meet again next year, to negotiate on fees thanks to council member Dages, who objected to the three-year increase proposal.

Autry told The Bee that he will veto the policy, because it doesn't go far enough: he wants a three-year plan that includes a steep raise in 2008-2009. The Mayor said he will give the council until April 9th to bend to his will before he vetoes.
