Nominations are now being accepted for the 7h Annual Local Hero awards program, which honors the accomplishments and contributions of men and women of Hispanic/Latino heritage. The winners will receive their award at a reception in mid-September in Fresno scheduled in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Presented by Union Bank of California and Valley Public Television the Local Hero awards will honor a total of five individuals in the following categories: arts, business, community activism/volunteerism, education and social services. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, May 18.
The winners will also be featured in a television profile that will air on KVPT and in print advertisements to be published in September.

Individuals may nominate potential candidates in multiple categories. To be eligible, nominees must be of Hispanic/Latino heritage which includes Mexican, Central American (Guatemalan, Honduran, Salvadoran, Costa Rican, Panamanian, other Central American), South American (Argentinean, Brazilian, Bolivian, Chilean, Columbian, Ecuadorian, Paraguayan, Peruvian, Uruguayan, Venezuelan, Other South American), Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican or other Hispanic/Latino. Also, the nominees must be unsung individuals who have made a significant impact to their profession and community and who have not received measurable public or media recognition for their accomplishments and contributions. All nominees must reside in the following KVPT-broadcast counties: Fresno, Madera, Visalia, Tulare, Kern, Kings, and Merced.
