Canadian denied entrance to U.S. after internet search reveals past LSD use

A Canadian psychotherapist was denied entry to the U.S. because of his previous LSD use.

When Andrew Feldmar was stopped at the U.S./Canada border for a random search, a border guard used a search engine to look Feldmar up. The guard found an article that Feldmar wrote in 2001 about an LSD trip he took nearly forty years prior. It was explained to Feldmar that under the rules of the Homeland Security Act, he was being denied entrance to the U.S. because of narcotics use, even though LSD is not a narcotic. Feldmar can apply for a waiver from the Department of Homeland Security, but until then, he is barred entrance to U.S. soil.

Feldmar attempted to explain that LSD is not a narcotic, but the guard was not interested.

A guard's job is to guard, not gather intelligence. What gives the guard the duty to perform this crude intelligence gathering?

Can we use this rule to keep President Bush out of the country next time he travels abroad? As Rick James once said, "Cocaine's a hell of a drug."

I keep remembering something like,,,

...back in one of my homestates, (penna, maybe,) --or maybe it was Illinois, (my old roomie would know,,,) -I think you were allowed to have 5 or 7 hits of acid, before you were considered to be legally insane or something...

I think it has something to do with the fact that some 'oil-based,' drugs stay in your system, nearly forever, and can at any time 'break loose,' and cause flashbacks, and that the more you take, the higher the liklihood that such a thing could occur...

-He is quite right, however in saying that LSD is not a narcotic or controlled substance.

-A narcotic is a usable (nationally,) recognized medication that registered into the formulary, and is permissable for use, with extreme care, monitoring, and tracking by the manufactorer, the prescribing physician, as well as the administering facility, (and medical staff.)
-They are permissable meds to use in the medical spectrum.

-LSD (among other 'illegal,' drugs,) have been considered, after a lot of testing, (on a national, as well as near world-wide scale,) to be deemed more harmful than good, and have no positive use in medical treatment regemines whatsoever, (which is why they have been deemed dangerous and illegal.)

I've always been impressed (not always in a good way,) with how damaged a person can be in their behaviors, reasonings, and functionality when they've taken too much of the stuff...
-Heck, even people who have been drunk for years, huffing nitrous, or major pot-heads for long periods of time are obviously addled in their thought processes.

Considering that I spent so much time working with people who were brain damaged through no fault of their own, (be it from organic problems, defects, traumatic injury, (etc.)) -I used to get so pissed when I'd see people deliberately making themselves this way for the sake of 'recreation.' (When others who really struggle are never going to have the abilities that abusers are throwing away willfully.)

Now, I just think it's stupid and sad...
