Snow White, a story ballet
Julie Ann Keller and Chris Campbell, the new owners of California Arts Academy (formerly the Cynthia Merrill School of Performing Arts), direct Snow White. Julie Ann Keller is Artistic Director and Chris Campbell is Technical Director, with Lighting Design by Jennifer Sullivan. This original story ballet incorporates classical dance, contemporary dance, and character dance to tell the story of the beautiful Snow White, the Evil Queen, and the seven friendly Dwarfs. Based on the beloved fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm and adapted by Julie Ann Keller, this version introduces a new character, the "Enchanter" (danced by professionals Daniel Chavez Jr. and J Orta), a magical being with the power to grant wishes.
Over 50 local dancers from all over the valley auditioned last Fall for the lead parts in Snow White, and the cast incorporates 208 dancers. Julie Ann Keller continues the 37 year tradition of dance theater in Fresno started by Cynthia Merrill in 1970, but she is pleased to be presenting an all-new original production. This is also the first year that auditions were open to our whole community of dancers.
