In another damning report on the state of Fresno Unified School District,
The Education Trust says the district's poorest students get the least experienced teachers.
Teachers' salaries are based on experience, and those with more seniority have more choice in their school assignments. From today's
Fresno Bee story on the report:
But Fresno Teachers Association President Larry Moore said that the uneven distribution of teachers is a problem. "You want a better mix of more experienced teachers and more evenly distributed age groups," he said, promising to work with Fresno Unified's superintendent to put the best teachers with the neediest students. "Research shows that experience does matter in the classroom and your best years of teaching are not those first years."
