The SJCGA shows provide a great opportunity for visitors to interact directly with the artists as well as make purchases of one-of-a-kind items not commonly found in stores. Beautiful bowls, mugs, cups, teapots, and plates that are produced at the artist-sellers' own private studios are only some of what visitors can find at these events. Elegant vases, handsome wall-hanging pieces, and delightful garden ornaments and sculptures are also offered to grace any home.
We, the members, strive to bring the hand-made back into daily life.
The San Joaquin Clay and Glass Association was founded by a small group of local potters in the Fresno area 26 years ago to provide opportunities for potters to sell their artwork as well as to educate the community on this craft closely linked to the history of human civilization. Over the years the SJCGA membership has grown considerably and has now embraced not only artists working in clay but those working in glass as well. The SJCGA holds two annual events, one in the spring on the Saturday before Mother's Day, and the other in the autumn on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Captivating demonstrations of the RAKU firing technique go on all day during the SJCGA shows. And for the past few shows, the association has teamed up with Young At Art in providing children (and those who are young at heart) with hands-on clay activities during show hours.
