Shooting near Fresno State
Submitted by jarah on Tue, 05/08/2007 - 11:26.
A 19 year-old student killed one and injured two others in an apartment complex on Barstow and Cedar, allegedly over a video game.
The suspect, Jonquel Brooks, promised to turn himself in but has not followed up. Anyone have any more details? Do you live in the neighborhood?
UPDATE: The suspect is in custody.

Pathetic
Over a playstation? That's sad. This shooting happened just over the length of a football field from where I live. Next thing ya know I'm giving my landlord 30 days notice to move out. That was the last straw for me. It's not safe around campus anymore. Heck, I don't even find it convenient. I've had enough with this area I've been living in. That was the second time in 8 months the cops, SWAT and ghetto birdie (copter) had to storm and evacuate this area. The first was the high speed chase involving two bank robbers that started in Clovis and ended in one of the neighboring complexes around here. Being woken up by a circling helicopter with SWAT outside my window made me feel like I woke up in a war zone.
This whole area by U. Village is a dump. I've lived here a while and it's time for me to move on to something better. I've lost faith in management and the neighbors have never made me feel a sense of community. In fact, they're giving me the creeps by the day. My point is that it used to be convenient to live here by State. Up until graduation a couple years ago, I would just walk to my classes as well as the football games. But now it's not even convenient let alone safe.
I mentioned those two incidents in this area and I also recall driving home one night a year or two ago when I was about to make my usual right turn onto Roberts by the Presbyterian Church off Cedar when I noticed it was blocked off by a police barricade and cop car lights. I had to take another route since a cop had supposedly been shot and injured in those apartments.
This is a very disturbing pattern I've noticed. All these incidents have happened in neighboring complexes which can only mean that the one I am in poses a risk as well. I'm moving out of this dump this week and only hope, pray and knock on wood that I make it through safely these last few days.
?
WTF
Shooting
Why is this "news"? I want to give my heartfelt prayer to the families affected by this sad and incomprehensible crime. I can't imagine the pain of a mother or father or any other family member who is touched by this sad outcome. Please accept my prayer for yur family as you journey through this sad time.
If you live near this crime and don't feel safe on your campus or dorm or any part of your college life say something, speak up, be heard.
If you heard the threatening ramblings of these poor child-men who threaten each other with powerful and deadly weapons and did nothing! shame on you and stop talking about it and start thanking your lucky stars no one came after you or some one you love.
You would be surprised how much it costs to put someone to death.

I doubt he will learn about the death penalty, some sob sister judge will probably give him the minimum sentence.
Not to mention costing the taxpayers a hell of a lot of money.
That's pretty sad. You would think a college student would have sense enough to know that shooting someone isn't going to further their academic education. I guess he'll get to learn about the legal system now.
not clear, my post may not be accurate:
The dispute did break out (reportedly,) over a video game.
There was apparently more shooting during the mid-to late morning, bringing up the injured list by two, (a third was 'just missed,')
---This was stated on the T.V., (really didn't have that serious an ear to it,,, installing a cabinet door...)
glad to hear he's in custody.
