I have been involved with Lennys Bistro Deli for 5 years now. Our first one is in Carmel California, we have been in Fresno for a little over one year. I love to see people enjoy the food that I was raised on and also enjoy to teach people about the different kinds of food. So please join us for a great experience of our jewish culture.

I love Lenny's
...as Fresno Famous slowly descends on a nice little kosher deli
-Me?
A Reuben, AND the Knish, (with a tall glass of seltzer-water,)
this is just a teaser,,, the full write up is coming.
Lets just say that it was a very nice lunch, and I have had my Knish expectations exceeded... (gourmet knish? go know...)
Again, full write up on the way...
-E
She had a Reuben, he had a Joe Demaggio
We didn't try the Knish, we had the potato cakes. They were recommended by our waitress to go along with a beer. The service was fast and friendly. When the gentleman that made the sandwiches behind the scenes came out to hand deliver a requested spoon, I had a feeling he wasn't just the sandwich maker. We got to meet Daniel and he's a cool dude. He cares about his customers and it showed immediately.
The potato cakes were great, came with sour creme and apple sauce. The Reuben was delish. What's in a Joe Demaggio? Chopped chicken liver, pastrami and maui onions. YUM!!! We wanted different, and we got it. We'll be back Daniel. Thanks.

And I know who the luckiest
Devil in town is...ME!
Now, we are going to try this place, and if it's good food it's good food. To me, authentic to it's roots won't matter much since I have no base of comparison. For myself there will be no bias cause it doesn't taste my aunts Knish that contains all these secret spices and family heritage. Sometimes, people forget that different is good too. (which is why I can totally dig on some raw fish a la sushi)

Oooohhh,
Duh...Daniel is the new man in charge! Sorry, I should've read all the posts first. Either way, we be there soon.
I don't have any idea what a Knish is and I've never had a Mazza Ball. Ask me about Albondigas, I know Albondigas. Can't wait to check it out. Daniel, my apologies for my mix-up.
OOTV, thank you for your kind words. I love my hottie Diablo so very much and he's all mine. I am the luckiest of all the girls!!!
...okay, just so we have all our ducks in line...
If I'm reading this correctly...
We have Daniel, who is currently running Lenny's and is one of the good guys...
(cheers, boychick, da cavalry is on the way...)
There is another gentleman who USED to run it, and he is, (ahem,) no longer with the firm... (boo-hiss,)
Then we have a bunch of drive-by's (with amazing spelling difficulties,)
who are trashing da joint...
(including Mamma T... who is, I believe the maker of some pretty decent pierogies... (oh wait, that's Mrs. T's... (whups, not-da-mamma...)
--And a gentleman who (okay, he's no gentleman,) has been feeding his child knish' since he was five...
(...perhaps the lad is tired of them??? if the kid is in his thirties or something, I mean, too much of a good thing is still a good thing, but some decent Chinese Take-Out once in a while helps with the digestion...(I recommend the saute'd stringbeans, it keeps the traffic flowing in the Holland, the Lincoln, annnnd the G.W. (if you know what I'm sayin'.... whuff.)
Now, stepping up to the plate...
(...you like how I did that...)
We have a voodverker und revinnisher who is going to make a stealth appearance, (for da knish, ---though, a nice sammich would be good, (...I love the mutten when they slice it nice and thin...)
-sorry, Miracle Max moment there...
AND...
one total cutie, (who is quite attractive and severely attracted to... a diablo... ---who make some of the best cafe' in fresneaux...)
she's a baker, she's in insurance, she's a hottie
he's a roaster, he's an engineer, and well, takes his shaving quite seriously,,, (is he a hottie? I don't know, daVoid don't swing dah-way... (but he has a nice smile and great personality, besides, goils... he's TAKEN, (he named a yet-to-be-opened cafe' after the girl... that's love....)
to quote Goldfrappe
'oooh, lah, lah...'
Tune in tomorrow for another episode of
'...as da gefelte toins...'

Lenny's
Diablo and I will visit soon =) We don't usually frequent that side of town, but we will make it a point to come by and try out your restaurant. What do you recommend? I love corned beef samiches.
OOTV is right, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Doesn't matter what Daniel, or anyone else says for that matter because we always go and find out for ourselves regardless so don't trip. See you soon!

easy tiger, easy...
you got yer knickers in such a twist...
-I don't even own a weapon,
-ain't nobody getting blammed here...
...Hang in there, Lenny's, I think it was Mae West who said 'there is no such thing as bad publicity,'
-or was that Bette Davis?
Henny Youngman?
(just enjoy your sabbath, friend, and let this glide, like off the back of a duck...)
...blamming indeed.
whuff...
don't blam me
if the food was good i would have said so but it wasn't. do you ever taste your own food there's no way that you can tell me that your corned beef was not like wet salt. the matzah ball soup had 2 matzah ball that were dry and had some kind of black stuff in them 4 cold noodles and 3 pieces of grilled chicken and it tasted old. the knish was the worst you souled find another place to get them. http://www.sargesdeli.com/newsides.htm#Knishes
IF YOU WANT GOOD REVIEWS MAKE GOOD FOOD
"besides, knish is an acquired taste and requires a trained palate."
this make no cents at all. my son as been eating knishes cent's he was 5 so i think he like them.
Daniel
I have to say that i enjoy to go out and critic food as well, just like everyone else in the world. But i do it alittle different, instead of being hard on the restaurant i talk with the owner and usally try and figure out a way to make the produce better. So that place does not lose my buiseness but gains my buiseness plus more people. I believe that we are all in this together, where did i learn this, here in Fresno, because I have so many regulars that come in and I listen to their ideas and they help me and i try to help them. Posting a comment that will keep people away from my restaurant just brings me closer to going out of buisness, so why do that when you could talk to me and make it a place that could bring back memories of NY for you. Or maybe, you just want to see people fail.
perhaps you may want to revisit this post.
there is a fine line between kvetching and godzilla on Tokyo.
That line is nowhere near to be found in this last post.
The true irony of it all.
'corned beef tasting like a Peace of salt.'
Perhaps it was a freudian slip, or your better side coming out in spite of yourself.
The word, I believe is 'piece,'
'Peace,' like that kvetch line?
Also nowhere to be found...
(sigh)
Now,,, as a New Yorker, I simply must seek this place out.
(I am hopefull your son used a napkin and didn't just harf it on the plate, like a cat with a furball... besides, knish is an acquired taste and requires a trained palate.)
Jewish Food and Drama... go figure...
(people) '...God, you've brought us out to die in the wilderness of Fresno,,, nothing but Manna, Manna this, Manna that, enough with the Manna already...'
(God) '...Hey, be nice,,, or it's puree'd squirrel and a thousand different ways to cook beans like B.Salazars...'
(people) '...ya know, come to think of it, Manna ain't so bad... but could you do something about this Heston schmeckle playing Moses, he's got a thing for guns, and it gives us the jitters...'
(God) '...I'll see what I can do...'
new york deli not even close
how can anyone say this is a new york style deli. it not even close. only thing that was good was the chicken salad and the french fries. the corned beef tasted like i had a Peace of salt I'm my mouth. the matzah ball soup was bad too. i could get better soup from a can. my son spit the knish out. it was really bad. donkey's 1st post was right. i really wish there was a real new york deli here. if you think this place is good try Nate & Al's in Beverly hills then you will know what good Jewish food is.
whuff...
..now, that, my friends is drama...
(I got whiplash from reading those last few... (good thing I know a good attorney...)
kidding, I'm kidding...
I've had several friends from NYC and several of the tribe speak of this place...
-even with the (previous,) management they said it was 'not bad...'
(...not exactly a rave, but then again, they weren't throwing rocks... I think they were keeping it interesting for me...)
--me? the goy from (slightly upstate?)
(don't laugh... the catskills used to be known as the borscht belt...)
----I do not know from these things myself, (but,)
must confess a combination of joy (and grief,)
as, I find knish, to be a truly sacred experience... (though a good garlic pickle is a nice second...)
With a reuben (or) pastrami on rye, (sliced thin, and I'm more of a dark pumpernickle man, m'self...)
I think a real knish needs to be bought, on the street from a guy with a cart, and much traffic going by (and a lot of cement and granite) for backdrop...
---or a row of brownstones if you're 'off-hours,'
In other words?
New York.
(which is okay... we all need our grail...)
Perhaps, this week, I shall make an unnanounced visit... (which is easy for me to do, as I'm merely a small cog in the great machinerey that is all things fresberg...
and will have to see what this thing is...
(They've been open this long, they must be doing something right.)
--and as for the owners comments?
This sounds like a nice man.
kudos...
Thank God
I want to retract my statement above. With new management and obvious customer service, I am sure all the other posts are accurate. I spoke to someone last night and they said you guys were wonderful and the food was amazing. So, thank god for new management!
Daniel
The guy that you are talking about was a manager who is not with us anymore. My name is Daniel and I have been running the restaurant, I am acutally the owner. I am sorry that you had a bad experience, but I would like to give you your money back. And I would also like to buy you lunch, and meet you so I could say sorry to you in person. Thank you- Daniel Spilfogel
The worst place I have ever been
I went to Lenny's when it first opened. It was the WORST experience of my life. The owner was the rudest human being I have ever met. He actually tried to blame me for it taking 90 minutes for a pastrami sandwich to arrive. When I finally got the food, it was RAW... Not undercooked, RAW. Then, when I complained they refused to remake the sandwich and charged me full price. I had 3 out of town guests with me and all our food was either raw or severely undercooked, thus ice cold. Avoid this place with your life. But, don't worry about the owner he spends more time at World's Sports than his own place. I enjoy nothing more than spending my hard earned money just to have to have it pumped from my body. Thank god I have medical insurance.
Lenny's is wonderful! The food is all very fresh, the service is friendly and quick, and best of all, the place has a charm not found in the many large chain restaurants found around Riverpark.
It's good
It is one of the few places I go to eat at if I'm forced to go to river park. Everything that I've had has been great. The food is very unique for the valley, and I highly recommend it (except for the knishes, which are not too good).
The Best Kosher Deli in Fresno!
Finally a place to get a REAL Pastrami sandwich, among other delectable items on this menu. I love the chopped liver ( try it, you'll love it), thin sliced fresh turkey, real Kosher pickles, sweet cole slaw, etc. Reminds me of the famous Ben's Kosher Deli's in New York.
My wife and I have eaten at Lenny's several times, since it is such a great departure from the usual chinese pizza taco sushi burger road we typically go down.
(No, chinese pizza taco sushi burgers are NOT an item on any menu, yet!)
This eatery is a great addition to the area!! And every time we have been there, the service is quick, helpful, and very friendly!
