Would you like to super-size your blessing?
Human beings have an instinctive desire to see a good fight.
How else can you explain 2nd graders from the right side of the tracks knowing they should form a circle when two classmates are about to go at it on the playground. It's all built in. Like it or not.
Which is why so many people are going to be interested in the battle of Biblical proportions that's about to take place in the Fresno/Clovis area.
And while it's not the fight to keep Hotel Fresno from becoming a bunch of broken bricks; nor the one to keep Downtown clear of capricious creeks, it will nonetheless be worth keeping an eye on.
Cornerstone Church, Clovis Hills Community Church and Celebration Church are all in the race to become Fresno's first MegaChurch.
Walk into any of these churches, and you'll be greeted by pastors with posses; multi-media based sermons; rock concert style worship and enough vanilla latte to make Starbucks "green" with envy.
Their congregations are growing. Their buildings are growing. Their visability is growing. They're on TV, radio, billboards; flyers, posters and direct mail pieces. Advertising is their sword and PR their shield.
Don't get me wrong. They do alot of good in the community. They feed the hungry. Clothe the poor. Welcome the unwanted. And redeem the soul.
But are they crossing the line with all the bells and whistles; gadgets and gizmos? Are they using the church to preach or to profit; to sell or to save?
Only God knows.
