FRESNO, Ca.—41 year-old Paul Perry, a victim of a demented use of the justice system to settle a personal vendetta, was a guest of the Valley Black Talk radio show May7th in follow-up to a April 29th Fresno Bee article detailing his horrible account of over 10-months of vicious unwarranted threats from Fresno County jail inmates. The threats were the results of letters from an unsuspecting guard to inmates full of racial slurs, derogatory comments, and slander against their families with the intent to enrage them to the point of wanting to retaliate against Paul Perry, his wife, her sons, and his mother. And for what … to combat a civil lawsuit and an at-fault car accident that the guard had with Perry?
After reaccounting the nightmare on Valley Black Talk— the resistance he encountered with the Sheriff Department, the threats from inmates to be released, and the anxiety of anticipating drive-by shootings—local activist and citizens were outraged; especially at the thought of, "What if this happened to me?"?
A press conference has been scheduled for Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 4 PM (PST) in front of the U.S. Courthouse on 2500 Tulare & O streets. Speakers from the NAACP, Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), Fresno Study Group of the Nation of Islam and Valley Black Talk will present an action plan and an official letter they have collaboratively written for the district attorney and U.S. Justice Department in regards to Perry's two-year incident. Local activists insist on further investigation into the matter, until Perry's life and family no longer feel in danger—the Fresno Sheriff Department did not inform inmates that Perry did not write any of those letters.
