Juve y Camps, 02 Brut , Reserva de la Familia, Penedes
This Cava of great personality owes its character to harmonious blend of the classic, indigenous grape varieties. It is the winery's emblematic Brut Nature which they have proudly named "Reserva de la Familia". It is produced from the free run juice of Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel•lo grapes coming from the Espiells, Can Massana and La Cuscona estates. The nose is generous, fruity and elegant, rich and complex from the long aging in bottle. On the palate it is quite dry, soft and round with a long and most exquisite finish.

Finca Arenti, 05 Albarino Single Vineyard, Rias Baixas
The DO of Rías Baixas lies on Galicia's deeply indented west coast, off of the Atlantic Ocean, just north of the Portuguese border—a land of harsh weather, great fishing, and the Albariño grape. While the vast majority of the wines from this district are produced from a mix of locations by cooperative wineries, Finca de Arantei is a single estate. It occupies 87.5 acres of rocky and sandy soil in the sub-zone of Condado de Tea, the heart of the Miño Valley, which gets some of the most ample sunshine in the DO. While it is legal to label a wine as Albariño when there is only 70% of this grape in the blend, Finca de Arantei is 100% Albariño.

2004 Artazu Rosado

A Grenache Dry Rose Table wine from Navarra,Spain
One of my favorite wineries, Bodegas Artazu is a noteworthy discovery by innovative importer Eric Solomon. Readers seeking a gorgeous rose to enjoy over the summer should check out the 100% tank-fermented Grenache cuvee, the 2004 Rosado. This crisp, elegant, medium-bodied effort reveals surprising flavor depth along with tangy acidity, classic framboise aromas and flavors, and a long, dry finish. This beauty should be consumed over the next year.

2005 Agricola de Borja Borsao

A Proprietary Blend Dry Red Table wine from Campo De Borja, Aragon, Spain Slightly more intense than the Vina Borgia (and priced $2 higher) is the 2005 Borsao, a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Tempranillo. This stainless steel-fermented, deep ruby-hued effort displays plenty of sweet black cherry, strawberry, and raspberry fruit, a hint of black currants, medium body, silky tannin, and wonderful ripeness. The word is "BUY!" Drink it over the next year.

2004 Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero

The reasonably priced 2004 Emilio Moro is a terrific Ribera del Duero aged in equal parts French and American oak prior to bottling. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a projected nose of blackberries, currants, cherries, smoky oak, and crushed rocks. Terrific texture, super purity, an opulent, full-bodied palate, and a long, heady finish suggest it will keep for 7-8 years.

2004 Finca Sandoval

A Proprietary Blend Dry Red Table wine from Manchuela,Spain The brilliant 2004 Finca Sandoval (83% Syrah, 9% Monastrell, and 8% Bobal) is produced from a vineyard situated on a plateau at 2250 feet elevation. Consequently, there is an unexpected freshness and uplift to this cuvee. Aged completely in French oak for 11 months, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple hue as well as a full-bodied, scorched earth character reminiscent of a French Graves. Sweet blackberry and cassis fruit, underlying minerality, silky tannin, and a textured, rich mouthfeel suggest this beautiful wine should drink well for a decade or more.
