MENOMENA + ALL SMILE (Jim Fairchild of GRANDADDY)
Portland's Menomena is one of the coolest indie bands playing right now. Label mates Death Cab for Cutie and Viva Voce have been singing their praises for quite some time.
Menomena mixes guitars, samplers, drums, and horns to create orchestra pop similar to The Flaming Lips. Menomena just went on tour w/ The Decemberists, and the fanbase has exploded. They are also set to play the huge Pitchfork Media Music Festival in July. Menomena buzz is so high that I was able to talk The Cellar Door into opening the venue up on a Sunday night to the band (normally the business is closed on Sunday).
Straight up, Menomena's album "Friend and Foe" is currently my favorite cd.
Oh, plus, All Smiles is opening; fronted by Jim Fairchild of Granddady fame, so you know it'll be cool.
