This central interior region, defined as "The Third California," by Brookings Institution fellows Joel Kotkin and William H. Frey in their March 2007 research brief "The Third California: The Golden State's New Frontier", extends from the outer suburbs of greater Los Angeles to the Sierra foothills in Northern California. This area of California is growing four times faster than the rest of the state and presently represents about 30% of the state's population, or about 9 million people, according to 2000 census data.

Trompe l'Oeil Artist Phyllis McAdams
Phyllis McAdams is known for her use of the Trompe l'Oeil technique, a French term meaning 'to fool the eye.' You will be tempted to touch the canvas to see if the objects are real. Phyllis enjoys the challenge of entertaining the viewer with this dimensional illusion and hopes that, for just a brief moment, she can literally 'fool your eye.' |

Menomena with All Smile
Portland's Menomena is one of the coolest indie bands playing right now. Label mates Death Cab for Cutie and Viva Voce have been singing their praises for quite some time. They are so cool, The Cellar Door agreed to open Sunday just for the show.
Menomena just went on tour with The Decemberists, and the fanbase has exploded. All Smiles, fronted by Jim Fairchild of Granddady fame, opens the show.
