Shakespeare in Hollywood
Good Company Players presents Ken Ludwig's fast, funny collision of fantasy and movie madness, Shakespeare in Hollywood, at The 2nd Space Theatre now through August 12.
Shakespeare in Hollywood
As the Warner Brothers prepare to produce a movie by "The Bard" in Hollywood, 1934, the Shakespeare characters Oberon and Puck magically materialize on the set. They're instantly smitten by the glitz of the silver screen - and wind up playing themselves in the film.
The Shakespeare characters find themselves rubbing shoulders with real people who were movers and shakers in 30's Hollywood. Jack Warner, Louella Parsons and James Cagney - as well as figures from Ludwig's fertile imagination - are part of demented (and unlikely) love triangles and deliciously inventive twists.
Shakespeare in Hollywood
If you're not passionate about Shakespeare, it won't matter; if you are, so much the better.
Shakespeare in Hollywood, winner of 2004's Helen Hayes best new play award, has sexy starlets, gaga gossip columnists, movie moguls and movie censors in a screw ball comedy that will "charm your socks off" (according to the Wall Street Journal).
The Cast
Shakespeare in Hollywood
Director Max Reinhardt (PATRICK TROMBORG, right) charms actress Lydia Lansing (CARLY OLIVER) while Jack Warner (GORDON MOORE) looks on in some distress.
Good Company's large cast includes Gordon Moore as Jack Warner and Carly Oliver as the clueless but ambitious starlet he adores; Patrick Tromborg as the temperamental director Max Reinhardt; Michael Oldham as Will Hays of the infamous Hays Code; plus Skyler Gray as Puck and Paddy Myers as Oberon.
Christine Barth plays the ingenue Oberon falls for, and featured roles are taken by Billy Jack Anderson, Samuel Frank, Jacob Lockie and James Walls-Lopez. Elizabeth Fiester and Barbara Kus alternate in the role of gossipmeister Louella Parson.
Shakespeare in Hollywood
Louella Parsons (BARBARA KUS) falls under a spell and attaches herself to Jack Warner's unwilling assistant (SAMUEL FRANK).
