Say it with me now: gen-tri-fi-ca-tion

Turning Hotel Fresno into a old folk's home for the poverty stricken doesn't seem like the best way to revitalize downtown. Vita: life. Old poor people: death. Would you want to spend your last days on that horrific corner with no greenery and nasty traffic? Downtown needs rich young people, silly.

The Fresno City Council has some fun ones on the agenda today. A presentation about Mexicana Airlines offering service from Fresno- something every red-blooded, cheap souvenir-buying Fresnan should be in favor of- and a public art policy. We're not too sure about that last one. If it's just going to result in more tiled murals we'll take a pass.
