The Fresno Business Journal is reporting His Trumpness has countered with a $40 million offer -- $20 mil in cash upfront, $20 mil on the backend.
Personally, I think Autry and Appleton are beside themselves with fear they may not get to hang out with the Trumpster at a golf tournament, or at least hang *on* his coattails. Trump's money isn't greener than anyone else's, but his celebrity factor has people just going nutso. I laughed and laughed and laughed at Mayor Bubba's televised tantrum last night when it looked like he might lose the warm glow of Trump's visage over City Hall, and the political bump it might have meant for him as he ponders his future.
And poor Ray. He might have been reduced to rehashing stories about dining with "my good friend" Ladi Di for the next month instead of with "my good friend" The Donald.
But back to the deal... People forget Trump's penchant for using bankruptcy court as a strategic tool, not as a last resort. Watch for him to form a holding company for Running Horse that can be flipped into bankruptcy quickly if necessary.
I imagine the pooch has already been screwed at Running Horse for the poor folks who thought they'd be living there by now. I hope they at least get some of their money back.
I hate promoting anything KMJ (the last thing they need is somebody promoting them) but the death of Running Horse played out over the airwaves today during Ray Appleton's show. It was great radio, but very depressing for Fresnans to listen too. You can listen to it by downloading this audio file: http://www.kmj580.com/podcasts/ray_6_19.mp3
Let's just say that current Running Clusterfuck developer Mick Evans (not a Fresnan!!!) screwed Fresno bigtime today. Trump really could have saved that mess and this San Diego jackass, Evans, screwed us.
One thing you can say about Trump?
He's all business.
If he pulled out? it was a business reason that made sense.
It was not that he read the polls and came to the following decision:
'Trumps coming: we're mad,'
'Trumps leaving: we're mad,'
(gee, what stays the same in the above...?)
I don't think he cares about the negativity...
(but we may want to see a doctor and get that checked...)

Lets just face it it's not like there are billionairs lining up on Hwy 99 just for the chance to invest here.
Even if they can get someone else to buy it, will that person have the clout or name recognition to change SOME people's opinion of Fresno. I doubt it.
Dont get me wrong as a person i think "the donald" is a punk. But that doesnt change the fact that he knows a thing or two about being a developer.
Not So Fast

On the other hand...
The Bee's Matt James, who's commenting on this because of the golf connection, I guess, has a different take.
These poor guys are probably going to get screwed no matter, but it's something to think about.
Fresno got screwed by a Running Horse
