The Woodward Shakespeare Festival is pleased to present Shakespeare's most harrowing tale of love - Othello. This interpretation explores how society uses traditions, mores, and the underlying fear of the unknown to destroy outsiders, and sometimes, ourselves.
Performances are at 8pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, June 28 - July 28 at the Rotary Amphitheatre in Fresno's Woodward Park.

Hot For Shakespeare?
As temperatures rise in the Central Valley, so do the tensions in Shakespeare's "Othello, The Moor of Venice", now playing at the Rotary Amphitheater in Fresno's Woodward Park. The curtain opens each Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. to reveal a steamy tale of deceit and rumors, jealousy and infidelity.
As the sun sets behind the Amphitheater at just about show time, the temperature becomes perfect for shorts and shirtsleeves. The Festival has added large fans and water misters to help make the audience's experience even more enjoyable. Attendees can enjoy a cool beverage while enjoying Shakespeare under the moon and stars as the Bard intended.
Fresno Bee drama critic Donald Munro states, "...in the brisk new production of 'Othello'...the character of Iago prompted a visceral response from the audience. At one point, I thought that the woman sitting in front of me might have to be restrained from rushing the stage and slapping him. It's a juicy role for Miles Villanueva... Youthful and swaggering, he plays Iago with hint of a smirk and a sullen sexuality."
"Othello, The Moor of Venice", directed by J.J. Cobb, will play through July 28.
There is no cooler way to spend a warm summer evening than with the hottest show in town.
