Fresno, with all that sun, is on the map with solar power

what do we have an abundance of? could it be sunlight?

Solar plant plan dwarfs all others
Project headed for west Fresno Co. would power 20,800 homes.

A startup company that just announced plans to build an enormous solar-energy plant in west Fresno County unveiled an even more massive project Thursday -- further boosting the Valley as a focal point of the emerging industry.

The 80-megawatt plant would be the largest in the world, producing enough electricity for 20,800 homes by the time it is finished in 2011, unless surpassed by other projects.

shouldn't this have started about 34 years ago
when the 1st gas crisis hit in 1973?

The 1973 Oil Crisis began in earnest on October 17, 1973, when the members of Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC, consisting of the Arab members of OPEC plus Egypt and Syria) announced, as a result of the ongoing Yom Kippur War, that they would no longer ship petroleum to nations that had supported Israel in its conflict with Syria and Egypt (i.e., to the United States, its allies in Western Europe, and to Japan).

Solar Powa

its just a matter of time and efficiency. Not to knock on wave power, but you're pretty stuck to coasts and beaches for that. There's no dodging the sun no matter where you go. Once the techbology to harness the suns power becomes more efficient things will certainly look up.

Diablo

Power

Well solar power is one alternative but still not efficient enough, maybe ocean power is better

Is "Frieburg" German for Fresno?

A German city's long focus on the sun

By PAUL BURKHARDT, Associated Press Writer Thu Jul 19, 11:40 AM ET
FREIBURG, Germany - Rolf Disch has harnessed the sun in his city of Freiburg, starting with his own house.
It looks like an upside-down Apollo spacecraft and serves as a testing ground for ideas dreamed up by the 63-year-old solar architect.
The home slowly turns with the sun to charge a billboard-sized solar panel on the roof, and the waterless toilet emits an occasional malodorous whiff. Hanna Lehmann, Disch's wife, says she doesn't mind these features but admits she'd like to have a freezer, except that it would eat up too much electricity for her husband's liking.
"I miss my Campari on ice," she said.

Behind the Smokescreen

We are told how the upcoming solar farm will improve pollution and asthma. But we hear nothing about what may lie behind the smokescreen. Even under the strictest of supervision and following of guidelines, excavation of sewer lines is one of the worst pollutants known to man. Imagine 40+/- yrs of this carried out unauthorized, without permits or inspections. Structures have literally been taken off their foundations followed by major reconstruction, also carried out without permits or inspections; in violation of building and health codes. Cross-connecting and re-routing lines. Mold, termites, leaks - asthma, lung, respiratory. It was recently announced that the air in our homes is now 3-5 x worse than it is outside. Is it any wonder?

Before praising anyone for their efforts and concern over our welfare, there are some serious issues needing to be addressed. Including the fact that our water infrastructure has been compromised by unauthorized individuals. To date, rather than to disprove what I have stated, the City of Fresno has responded with nothing more than lies, threats and name calling in an attempt to discredit the above facts. Their own (unaltered) records verify exactly what has been done. The trail of ID theft, missing people, forgeries, illegal conversion of assets is another issue needing to be addressed. The ringleader (former appraiser for the City) has turned this into an even bigger nightmare in order to carry this out. Says his son will soon make a fortune in the solar business. No doubt.

Major cover up.

I just had to link this ad that's on FF,

coincidence leads to synergy, if we take advantage of the coming paradigm shift, I mean, lets face it, are you willing to pay $5 per gallon for your put-put? Or $400 per month PG&E? It time Fresno got off the grid, the more we're tied down to 20th century tech & transport, the more behind we'll get.

Fuel diversity is smart. It protects electric companies and their customers from contingencies such as fuel unavailability, fuel price fluctuations, and changes in regulatory practices that can drive up the cost of a particular fuel. Fuel diversity also helps ensure stability and reliability in electricity supply and strengthens national security.
