Loren Pickford and Friends - Reunion Concert
90.7 KFSR and JazzFresno present a special reunion concert featuring Fresno jazz legend, saxophonist Loren Pickford, Thursday August 16th at the Fresno Art Museum. One of Fresno's leading jazz artists of the 1970's and 1980's, Loren played with Jackie Wilson, Ray Charles, T-Bone Walker, Chet Baker, Frank Rosolino, Billy Higgins and many others. He resettled in New Orleans in the early 1990's and lived there until Hurricane Katrina struck, destroying nearly everything he owned. Loren now lives in Kansas City, and this August 16th concert marks his first Fresno performance in years. Loren will be joined by his son, bassist Lucas Pickford, as well as his friends and former band members pianist Craig VonBerg, drummer Gary Newmark, and other special guests. The concert coincides with a photo exhibit at the museum by Loren's brother Joel Pickford, called "Le Monde Créole" featuring photos of Southern Louisiana.
The concert begins at 7:00pm, with a pre-concert reception at 6:00pm. Tickets are $15 general, $12 for 90.7 KFSR and JazzFresno members. Advance tickets are available at the Fresno Art Museum Gift Shop. More information is available by calling 559-278-2598. This concert kicks off 90.7 KFSR's 25th Anniversary celebration, with more events later this fall, including Evening Eclectic En Vivo II - Saturday October 27th.
