Hotel Fresno to become artists' lofts?

Just saw this article http://www.fresnobee.com/updates/story/97402.html that another group has bought the Hotel Fresno building, with plans to convert it to artists' lofts.

I'm optimistic...it's a shame what's happened to that building over the years, and to see a historic treasure like that dodge the wrecking ball on more time on the path to hopefully becoming a benefit to the arts/culture district is just incredible.

Kudos to the previous ownership group, through their trials in getting a project off the ground they saved the building from destruction. And best wishes to the new owners, who hopefully can complete the vision so many of us have for that landmark structure.

Re: Hotel Fresno!

Yes, this is GREAT news! Romi Baghgegian is also the developer of the Virgina Hotel on Kern Street which is currently under construction, for offices on the top floors, and retail on the bottom. He "gets it".

Now I'm curious as to what the city can do to help his development w/ the Hotel Fresno. Right now the building is orphaned out there with a terrible confluence of poorly planned streets that go in every direction but where they're supposed to. Broadway should be extended from Tuoloumne to Mariposa Street, as it used to go. It was all torn up for the Tuoloumne Diverter, which was part of this grand plan of one way streets and diagonal "diverters" that proved to be a horrible disaster. There is no reason NOT to return the street grid back to its original setup in that area.

super nice.

if it's the same guy, i met him one night...with reza. it's good to have another like minded developer taking on the downtown situation. he seemed like a nice guy, with a strong, visionary sense. he was asking recommendations for restaurant types downtown, i think to put in the first level of the building.

i think he's also involved in the purchase & remodel of another downtown building.

i can't wait to see how this develops. maybe this will cause me to vacate the tower for downtown.

this is excellent... really excellent...

and that loud sound and bright flash over by the college is Joe Moore grinning reeeeallly hard.

cool...
