Hello Fresno, I am new to the city...like 2 weeks. Got a sweet job at Fresno State but miss the activities from my old home in Orlando. I live in the River Park area and there ain't a whole lot goin down up here. Does anybody have any suggestions for things to check out that would help some one get to know the city. I heard Babylon which use to be Avalon is pretty fun. Oh, and were the heck do you park when downtown, didn't see much of it.
Thanks
The Friday Night Perfection
Welcome to our fair city. In the past, people complained about a lack of activities. Now there are abundant opportunities for fun. I'm going to provide you with an itinerary for a Friday night that will afford you a multi-sensory experience.
8:00
Catch a FresnoFilmWorks Movie at the Tower Theatre. Tonight they are showing Killer of Sheep.
10:00
Dinner at SmokeHouse in downtown on Van Ness. You will experience a good southern BBQ and tremendously good music. Get the SmokeHouse Punch for a nice beverage, but be careful because people say they will sneak up on you if you drink them too fast. The SmokeHouse band plays good jams and gets you feeling like swell.
11:30
Head down the road to Tokyo Garden for some karaoke and sake. After a good dinner and a few drinks you deserve to laugh at or be laughed at. The crowd varies from large to small but the atmosphere is fun.
1:45 am
Leave Tokyo and head to the Million Elephant in the Tower District. They have a great patio and serve food until 3am or so. It a great place to watch all the drunks leave the bars. The food is also very good.
These three places will make you feel like you have taken in more than you can process, but you will spend a lot of time laughing.
This is only Friday night...
TONS!
of stuff to do that is. you gotta check out the Tower district. Livingstones, Club Fred, Veni Vedi Vici are my fave bars. Good food at Million Elephant if you like Thai.
Downtown has great thrift stores, cool art galleries, good hole in the wall restaurants and Baseball! And you can either park at the garage on Inyo and Van Ness or take some quarters and use a meter!
Depending on the type of music you like, there are tons of local bands who play regularly at spots all over Fresno.
Continue to check FF event calendar and you'll never be at a loss for things to do. From Canoeing (sp?) down the River to Flea Markets to concerts and art shows, there is ALWAYS something to do in Fresno.
WHOOP WHOOP Fresno State!
