Why Jack 105.9 is cool, and Why Kyle (the promo guy,) at 105.9 is cooler than cool...

Okay...

First off, I listen to more than one radio station, (Actually, anymore? I listen to hardly any, -as I'm either in a store building stuff for hours on end.)

(Which also means I get to hear every last lame recent Carlos Santana Duet and solo... (don't get me wrong, I loves me some Santana...
but it's like EVERY last BAD song he's done with some schlepp singer is now piped into the same sirus channel...

I used to think only Clapton fell into 'schlock,' mode (he had a rough bunch recently,)
-and then, the two new Billy Joel songs that are completely horrendous, (some of the worst lyrics in history, he should have stayed with the faux-classical...)

-Mix all three artists hour after hour?
I start banging my head into the workbench just to make it all go away.

-Though on a good note?
I now know of Snow Patrol, (who I actually like...)
And I'm thinking of petitioning the lead from Keane to front Queen, (that's if Brian May is done getting his Doctorate in space or whatever...)

Anyway,
-in the pickup I have on either KFSR or Jack 105.9 FM.

I like both, am quite the music floosie and are darn proud of it.

As we know,
there is going to be a KILLER concert this Friday with ZZTop, the Pretenders, and the Stray Cats.

---All three of these bands have been huge favs. of mine since they started recording,
-and the lineup is tremendous, (I honestly don't know which one is headlining, --cause to me they all are worthy of top billing...)

Anyhow, I tried to do that 'buy my ticket for 10.59 late this weekend, (actually Monday night,) during the perameter hours that were described by by Uncle Josh's house of information that came out on FresFam... 'sorta wish I'd waited,' string.

Problem was?
The Savemart ticket outlet (Ticketron,) closed like, two to three hours early (from the advertised time,) ---and the phone purchase thing weren't working either...
-by time I made it back to the keyboard?
No deal, it was past 11:00p

(This sucked.)

So today I called up the Arena,
(was at first told 'thems the brakes,')

-But was then given over to a rather nice lady who takes care of the staffing and security and refreshments and such, (she's very important, and very friendly,)
said she'd see if 'she could do something to help me out...' (I just wanted one ticket, and wanted it for the 10:59 price...)

Then I had the bright idea:

-hmmmm, 105.9 is a LOT like 10:59.
-And Jack 105.9 is hosting the show...
----(and the nice lady at the Center said
'...the price of the tickets are set by the promoters (okay,)
and the artists (doubtful.)

---So I called into the station.

Left a message.
-Didn't hear anything back, (but it turns out there was some weird cel-phone weirdness afoot... my phone was giving a busy signal...)

I called back, -was given the news director of (KMJ?)
(sorry, I think his name is Randy or something,
-he now has this long message explaining my adventures in trying to buy a ticket...
---I was told later that he does the morning hog-report or something, and has nothing to do with Jack...
-again sorry Mr. Nessman, er, Randy...)

But I called again, and finally met my new pal: Kyle.

(Okay, we're not really pals, but I think he's cool and am forever in his debt.)

After hearing the story (again,) he said:

'...you went through a lot, I'm really sorry, there was weirdness in the places you tried to buy a ticket... I'm going to give you two..'

-So I figured:

-Um, okay, cool... I'll buy two tickets at the 10.59 price...

Nope...
...dude, totally GAVE me two tickets.. (and they're pretty good tickets too,
I mean, they're not front row center,
but I just looked them up on the chart?,
and they're decent seats
-and probably even better than I would have gotten for the 'special price,'
---and he gave me TWO.
(whota guy.)
Now you know?

Though I listen to Jack?
I know that they don't have DJ's ---and figured it was just 'satellite,' radio or something with a giant 'shuffle,' cartridge..

I didn't mind, I like the music, and it suits my driving style...

(...there are those mornings on the way to church when they're playing 'Highway to Hell,' by ACDC,
---but I figure it's just to remind folks that nihlism is not the only option, (though I've heard Talking Heads: Road to Nowhere on sunday Mornings as well...)

But, because I only hear this one promo person
(Heidi?) -who sounds kinda cute, actually,
----I just figured: Major Corporate station = NO SOUL.

Totally wrong...
There are very definitely people there who care...

This Kyle guy is alright.
He's a regular joe, er, Kyle,
-and was not only sympathetic to my plight in trying to buy a single measly ticket, (which he didn't have to be..)

-But he also appreciated my listening to the station, and wanted me to have a good time this Friday.

Nice.
Very nice.
This is a nice man, and I now know a nice person at a second radio station, (as well as the nice people over at KFSR, too...)

...Now I have to scare up a date...
(Which means washing the truck and cleaning it out too...)
---but then again, if she's into ZZTop, the Prentenders, AND the Stray Cats (all in one show,)
---a beater '70 F250 shouldn't frighten her away, (but I'm going to have to iron my O'tooles Harley Davidson (of Wurtsboro NY,) T-Shirt...

Kyle.
You're excellent.
Thanks.

PS: Fav. Jack 105.9 songs (in recent memory.)

-'Photograph' by Def Leppard (anything by Def Leppard,) but this time played DIRECTLY before the Chairman of the Board went into 'New York-New York,'
-I felt like it was my birthday...
(I freakin' bellowed BOTH, and I think made the police a little nervous...)

-riding along, thinking of my sister back home and then suddnly hearing 'Faithfully,' by Journey (it's a song we dance to at weddings, ---sang that one too.)

-And the other night? when Love-n-Rockets: 'So Alive,' came on...
blew me away, (amazing band, excellent song,
-if you play 'Bella Lugosi's Dead' (Love and Rockets is Bauhaus without Peter Murphy, after all,)
-I will stop the truck, get out, and salute the general direction of the station.)

-And thanks for NOT going so heavy into Bon Jovi...
I'm from the Springsteen Era,
-and people from Jersey who do Springsteen? DON'T do Bon Jovi. (trust me on this.)

-And thanks so much for resurrecting Tom Jones' 'Kiss,'
(to me, it's as good as Prince' version... sometimes better.)

Carry on, you're doing a great job.

most local radio sucks

most all of the local radio stations suck shit, they don't cater to the needs of the local community the closest one get's to it is maybe KFCF when it's not broadcasting Berkeley stuff.

The guys and gals over at Peak Broadcasting (they own KMJ and Jack 105.9 along with several over stations) are AWESOME!!! and yes Jack has no DJs

...further we go...

...so like, I'm sitting here, drinking the morning cuppa, when I get this phone call...

It's the guy who I called by accident, (his name is not Randy, it's Roy...
He's the news guy from KMJ???
(very distinct voice, kinda deep fast talking, when he calls you you pay attention... that sort of voice.

HE called about the tickets too...(and I got put into his voicemail by accident, actually.)

-Basically said:
'Eric this is Roy (I think he said his last name,) and wanted to know what concert it was I was trying to get tickets to...'

-I guess he was looking to help me out as well, so I thanked him for his time, explained that Kyle had already hooked me up, and that I really appreciated his attention...
(I told him what the initial problem had been, that the situation had been remedied by Kyle's benevolence, bladda-bladda etc...)

And he was quite pleased that things worked out well...

Again I thanked him for his time, his returning of the phone call, (apologized for being put into the wrong voicemail,) -and he wished me a good time at the concert...

---Seriously folks?
These are really nice people... I mean, I tell ya,,, they make the town look good... very 'customer,' oriented, on top of stuff...

-I'd ask if we could get any of them to run for office, (but that wouldn't be very nice now would it...)
Still

The yankees cap is totally tipped to this broadcasting company's manners and professionalism...

(...still thinking about who to ask to this thing... gots me some ideas...)
