Bakersfield's not gonna put up with this crap

Kern County officials are upset at a Fresno plan to dump 47,000 tons of wet sewage in the county. Already Bakersfield is a dumping ground for waste from southern California. From the Bakersfield Californian:
What's upset Kern officials is a contract switch that would send 47,000 wet tons of Fresno's sewage sludge to local farmland every year -- just as Kern is working feverishly to ban the practice, in part due to worries about contaminating precious groundwater.

Fresno officials say they're on track to grant contracts that serve the public interest.

Since May, when the deal was first slated for a vote by the Fresno City Council, things have turned ugly.

Kern County lawyers, for example, say Fresno has broken public records laws and will, if the deal is approved, have violated state environmental law.
The council was set to address the issue at yesterday's meeting.
