We don't just need MORE parking...

We need BETTER parking!!!

Starting w/ the infamous River Park: The existing parking garage is a good size, being that it is for patrons of The Shops at River Park and the Edwards Theater. But, why isn't there a parking garage for The MarketPlace? Why is there so much misused space (i.e. all of that surface parking in front of Target, Best Buy, etc.)? It would be too expensive (to say the least) to move any stores, but can we at least build a garage SOMEWHERE on that land (off of Alluvial between Comp USA and the JC Penny Home Store would be nice)? Then we could put some stores in the middle and make the center more walkable.

Fresno State: Parking garage.

Fashion Fair: Parking garage, preferably in back.

Manchester Center: Parking garage, underground, between the mall and the theater, or in place of that CalTrans parking cage.

Fresno: Garage, garage, garage!!!

NO MORE FOOTBALL FIELD PARKING!

That is all.

Car culture is California...

...and I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon.

It would be nice, and alternate forms of transportation are definitely something that we need to look into, but I think thats another issue.

What I was saying is that, given our automobile centered society, we should at least use our land wisely. I mean, are we putting our cars on display for the Gods? We should build UP and not OUT.

It's not a new idea, it just needs to be re-emphasized from time to time...

same story

It's more about building alternative forms of transportation than it is about the status-quo of current real estate development. The current car culture mindset uses a 70/30 mix - that’s 70% of all real estate development to satisfy the requirement needed by the automobile, 30% goes to the actual real estate building.
