DUI Checkpoint in Clovis

DUI Checkpoints Are No Longer Just Weekend Events In Clovis!

The Clovis Police Department will hold a sobriety/driver license checkpoint Thursday night (11/29) into Friday morning. It’s part of the department’s on-going effort to get drunk drivers and unlicensed drivers off the road through a two-year Office of Traffic Safety/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant. This is the second checkpoint the “STEP,” or Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, grant has funded in just 30 days. It also allowed the department to hold DUI saturation patrols on Saturday, November 17th. Clovis Police arrested one person for drunk driving. They also issued sixteen traffic related citations, including 5 for speeding and 3 for running stop signs.

The checkpoint will be in operation from 7:00 p.m. Thursday until 3:00 a.m. Friday. In addition, officers will be on heightened alert for drivers under the influence in other areas of the city.

Officers will be looking not only for drunk or unlicensed drivers, but also for those with open containers in their vehicles, those who are under the influence of drugs, and those who are committing other serious criminal violations.

Funding for this STEP enforcement detail is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
