Fall is upon us. The leaves are turning brilliant shades of red and gold, a crispness has entered the air, and folks are pulling their mittens and scarves out of winter storage. At least that's what some folks are doing. Fresno is still in the mid-80's, rendering socks useless for the sixth consecutive month. You might want to grab a long-sleeve t-shirt for after dark, and plan your evening carefully. You'll want to pack in as much as possible before 8 o'clock, when most galleries turn back into a pumpkin.

Start the evening at Arte Americas. DEADications, this year's Day of the Deal exhibit, features contemporary and traditional alters honoring pasted loved ones. Collages of a person's life, alters feature items from fresh fruit to old photographs.

From Arte make your way north to Bill Bruce Studio. He'll have new and old works on display, and jazz on the stereo as usual. Say goodbye to Bill and head down to the new Broadway Studios. There's always something new on display here, whether its paintings on canvas or charcoal sketches on the wall. Next door to Broadway Studios Shannon Bickford will premier an exhibit on the 8th floor of the Trade Center. Her rugged landscape paintings will be on display. See if you can wonder up to the top floor to sneak a peak at the old ballroom and a magnificent view of downtown Fresno.

Head down the Fulton Mall to the TW Patterson Building for Dixie Salazar's special showing, "Escaping Gravity". In this collection of large oil paintings, the figure in movement (sometimes under water) is used as a metaphor for the human condition, exploring the rituals of birth, baptism, death, drowning, and survival.

Next make your way down Van Ness to the new temporary home of the Met's ASK Reeves Science Center. They are located in the old Fink and Scopp building until their multimillion-dollar renovation is complete. Explore the hands-on world of science and ask about the plans for the new museum. Keep heading south on Van Ness and hit up the Mono Corridor. Corridor 2122 will be holding part two of its anniversary exhibition, featuring drawings from gallery members. Fresno's city-wide focus on drawing continues into October.

Nudes are the focus at Studios at the Bus Barn for artist Amy Kohl. She will be exhibiting her drawings and sculptures along with Robert Ogata and other Bus Barn artists. Around the corner at Gallery 25 Vincent L. Mendez will exhibit his colorful, folkloric paintings with agricultural and Latino themes.

Journey through the soon-to-be Armenia Town for a fun time at Chris Sorenson's Studio. If you've never been this far south, you're in for a treat. With more metal than a junkyard this warehouse is a welder's paradise. This month the studio will showcase the entries for the Rogue Festival muse competition, including the winner. One of the entries included brownies, and we hear they are making a repeat appearance.

Do you miss H Street Studios? The building is being gutted for lofts, but the art lives on. H Street artists Ramiro Martinez, Joshua Wigger, Laura Goldstone, and Vicente Aiello take over Club Jinnaka for October. See their latest pieces before heading next door to Tokyo Garden for your monthly dose of Rademacher. They're joined in their residency by Los Angeles' Space MTN and a solo acoustic Radioactive Cauliflower (of El Olio Wolof). If rock n' roll isn't your thing, head on over to the African American Museum for a poetry jam from 8pm to 10:30pm.
